Picking a Daily Driver: PC, Mac, or mobile device

So, you’re sitting there much like the guy in the pic later in this article and just stressed about what device will be best for daily use for you. Welcome to 2026, where everything does everything and nothing makes sense. We live in a world with too many choices. Macs and PCs for creators, but now iPads have menus and resizable windows like Macs do. Seems like the systems we use are getting multiple personalities!

So, what’s a person to do? Where do you start? Well be honest and figure out what you work on daily. I’ll admit I borrowed the word daily driver from car speak. Its why people don’t drive a Porsche 911 each day to do groceries, actually I’ve seen people who do, but sometimes you have the Tesla for the day-to-day stuff as fixing a German sports car can get pricey when someone dings the crap out of it with a shopping cart.

Are you a writer? A photo editor? Use apps that only run with certain hardware? All these things typical say, “I need a PC or a Mac.” Don’t hate on me folks with an iPad and magic keyboard. Yes, I have both of those and right now that keyboard is kinda gathering dust, sadly. eBay anyone? PC or Mac laptops and Mac Minis (I have one of these too they rock) give you more power and multi-task easier. Yeah, I know iPads are getting better at that. Thanks for blurring the lines APPLE! I also have a Macbook Air 15 with M4 and it wakes instantly, gotta love that.

Tablets are usually best for consuming content

I say usually because now that Apple made the last iPadOS more multitask friendly and gave iPad users an actually top bar menus things are getting muddy. But that said, tablets wake up immediately, and the newest ones from Apple and Android have pen input as well. Yes, I have an Apple Pencil Pro, but do I use it regularly. I’d rather not answer that question, or another accessory might find it’s way to eBay.

But that said if all you do is have long reading sessions, binge watch The Pitt (love this show) or Netflix, browse the web all day then tablets might be your thing.

Creating content usually means FULL apps

Again, there’s that usually part again. Full apps only on PCs and Macs. Are you sure? I’m looking at your Adobe putting your stuff on iPads. But traditionally for content creation, a PC or Mac usually wins because of those meatier full featured apps, stronger multitasking, and they have a real file system with folders and stuff. That said, iPads keep getting more capable with each iPadOS update. Better multitasking, improved file handling, and stronger keyboard support are making tablets more useful for making stuff. For a lot of people an iPad with a keyboard and stylus can handle everyday tasks, but like I said, I’m not that guy.

PC or Mac for raw power and multitasking

Pick a PC or Mac if you need desktop apps, raw power, or heavy multitasking. Pick a tablet if you want portability, touch input, and like to watch stuff. If you are unsure try a tablet with a keyboard for a few weeks and see if it fits your style better than it does mine. It’s ok to have multiple units, I do, and switch between them as you see fit. There’s really no right or wrong answer here…
