Talkin Bit is where real tech experience meets plain English. I got tired of tech advice that was either written for engineers or written by people who’d never actually used the thing they were reviewing. Real people making real decisions about their tech need value and deserve better.
What are we all about?

Technology should make your life easier. Not more frustrating. Not more confusing. Not more expensive than it needs to be. That’s the whole point of this site.
I’ve been working with technology for over 30 years. PCs, Macs, Linux boxes, iPhones, Android devices, Raspberry Pi home automation setups, networking, security cameras — if it plugs in or connects to Wi-Fi, I’ve probably broken it, fixed it, and formed a strong opinion about it.
As a tech consultant and fellow business owner, it’s all about value. I review hardware or software because there’s value in knowing if it works and helps. If I am telling you about a multi-terabyte NAS migration, it’s because personal time was spent on a weekend or night doing hands-on work to see if the investment was worth it.
TalkinBit’s 3 Laws (kinda like Asimov’s 3 laws but different):
- Ownership First: I lead with what I actually own and use. If a company sent me something, you will know right off the bat, but my preference is always to have skin in the game.
- The Reality Check: Technology can be great, “except when it’s not.” I focus on the compatibility headaches, the software bugs, and the setup hurdles that the vendors don’t mention.
- No AI Fluff: Your time is valuable. I give direct observations, real performance talk, and in the end a “go for it” or “not worth it” verdict.
Stuff we talk about
- Buying decisions: Honest takes on what’s worth your money and what isn’t
- Home networking and security: From Wi-Fi to security cameras, we test this stuff at home
- AI tools: Cutting through the hype to tell you what’s actually useful
- PC building: Practical advice whether you’re a first-timer or upgrading
- Making old tech last longer: Because replacing everything every two years is expensive
- The bigger picture: How tech is changing work, creativity, and everyday life. Lately, a lot of AI here
Who writes this stuff
Different folks, but you’ll see JCubes a lot. TalkinBit also features guest contributors who bring their own real-world experience to the table. Every piece is written by someone who actually uses the technology they’re writing about.
No recycled spec sheets, no generic crap, basically. We love to use tech and live with it daily. Sure, we use tools for spell check and grammar that might use AI, but that’s just to not sound like someone who can’t spell. 🙂
Why should you listen to what we say?
30+ years in the field means seeing lots of tech trends come and go. Built my first PC at 14. Played with 8088, 80286, 80386, 486, Pentiums; well, you get it. Even some AMD.
iPhones, iPads, Apple TVs, and Apple Watches from the first ones to the latest ones. Even had a few years of Android thrown in there too.
Saw the start of cloud migration and now watching this AI wave with the rest of you. Along with the “wow” moments and the fears of “what’s next.” I’m not getting paid to recommend things; this is a mission/passion. Test, form opinions, and tell you what we actually think, especially when that opinion can save you money.
