So, Apple just dumped a bunch of new products last week and this week we can finally get our hands on them. What are you going to buy?
iPhone 17e ($599)
The newer entry iPhone has landed. The specs are bumped, you finally have wireless charging at this price point, and the space being 256GB relieved that space anxiety you had with the last version. A lot of people are saying the “e” in this phone stands for “enough.” Enough phone for most people. I agree.
iPad Air with M4 ($599)
iPad Air lovers rejoice, you get M4 Apple Silicon. Are you excited? I’m more of an iPad Pro guy myself. That said, this opens the door to Apple AI features, yes I know they call it Apple Intelligence to sound unique and cool. Wi-Fi 7 is also a nice add.
MacBook Air with M5 ($1,099)
So, I’m typing this up on an M4 MacBook Air and I have to say for this generation I’m staying put. Sure 50% faster gaming and 25% faster multitasking “sounds” nice but do I really need it? Nope. Wi-Fi 7 another nice to have but I don’t see how it’s going to make things sooo much faster. If you want to get an Air and have the budget, sure grab one. If you want your dollars to hang out with you longer than the M4 MacBook Air is just fine and enjoyable. Maybe I’ll wait for the M5 or M6 version down the road 😉
MacBook Pro with M5 Pro / M5 Max ($2,199)
I have to admit I’m just not the target market for this MacBook. Yeah, if you’re a what they used to call a prosumer, actually I think that’s an old Dell term GASP, then sure this looks like your angle. Granted same thought, spec sheet compare it to the M4 version and ask yourself the tough question, “how much do I want to spend.” That said all future hype is about touchscreen OLED MacBooks coming. Have time to spare? You might want to wait it out.
MacBook Neo ($599)
If you read my other article about the MacBook Neo you already know my take on this one. All the other tech blogs are calling it surprising and a great value. Sorry, that’s just not me. You get what could be the world’s first throwaway MacBook in about 2-3 years. I get it if you REALLY want a MacBook and the budget isn’t there, then it’s an option, but set aside some $$$ to swap it out soon. The first time you start opening AI apps and other items at the same time and can’t stand the speed you might just remember these words. And hey maybe you just really want one of the new colors. No judgement here. Granted if you can get educational pricing it’s $499 so that could tip the scales for many to a buy.
So, What Happens Next?
All the Apple goodies mentioned ship tomorrow, March 11. So let the buying games begin. Enjoy whatever new stuff you get. Feel free to comment as well. BTW, Apple, where is that new Apple TV I keep hearing about???
